Press Release: ICMA Focus Group Discussion on an Outcome-Based Education Undergraduate Curriculum

The Undergraduate Accounting Study Program of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta considers curriculum review to be an essential component of its continuous efforts to enhance the quality of education. This review is conducted to evaluate the alignment of Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs), course structure, learning content, and assessment methods and strategies with the latest developments in the accounting field and the needs of graduate stakeholders. Furthermore, the curriculum review serves as an opportunity to strengthen the implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach, ensuring that the learning process is genuinely focused on achieving the predetermined graduate competencies.

To obtain broader perspectives and ensure that the curriculum remains relevant to professional needs, the Undergraduate Accounting Study Program organized a Curriculum Review activity in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Young Accounting Scholars (ICMA). This collaboration is expected to serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences between academics and the community of young accounting scholars, particularly in identifying the future competencies required of accounting graduates. The involvement of ICMA is also expected to provide critical insights regarding developments in accounting knowledge, professional challenges, interdisciplinary competency requirements, and opportunities for advancing accounting education in response to changes in the business and technological environment.

The event was held on Friday, October 30, 2026. It was attended by the Chairman of ICMA, Rafles Ginting, S.E., M.Ak., several ICMA members, the Vice Dean for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation, the management and curriculum development team of the Accounting Study Program, and Accounting faculty members. The event demonstrated the department’s commitment to involving both faculty leadership and academic staff in curriculum discussions and development.

The discussion covered five key areas: strengthening the identity and academic excellence of the study program based on the institution’s distinctive focus on development and natural resources; aligning the curriculum with labor market needs; adapting to strategic issues such as climate change, sustainability, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation; enhancing students’ practical and professional competencies; and increasing research and scientific publication capacity. Through this activity, the program expects to obtain a wide range of constructive inputs and recommendations to serve as the foundation for developing a more adaptive, competitive, and future-oriented curriculum. Ultimately, this will enable the program to produce accounting graduates who are competent, innovative, ethical, and academically distinguished, while remaining aligned with the vision and unique characteristics of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta.
