Batch 1 Student of the Joint Degree Master of Management Program at FEB UPNVY Officially Begins Academic Phase at MSU
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 7 September 2026 – The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta marked an important milestone in strengthening the internationalization of education with the commencement of the academic phase for students of Batch 1 of the Joint Degree Master of Management Program in collaboration with MSU. Nur Hartanilla, the first student enrolled in the program, has commenced her academic process and thesis proposal discussions with supervisors from both universities.
During the academic session held at MSU, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Nur Hartanilla discussed her thesis research plan, which focuses on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Performance. The supervision process is being conducted collaboratively by Dr. Nilmawati, M.Si. from UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta and Dr. Iylia Dayana Binti Mohamed Izwan from MSU.
The commencement of the joint supervision process marks the transition of the Joint Degree collaboration between the two institutions into a tangible stage of academic implementation. For the Batch 1 student, the program provides an opportunity to gain cross-institutional academic experience while broadening her research perspective through supervision by academics from both universities.
This milestone coincided with a coordination meeting between FEB UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta and MSU, held on 7 September 2026 at MSU, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting was opened by Mohd Hairulnizam Ibrahim, Director of International Affairs, and attended by Dr. Khalilah binti Abd Hafiz, Head of Department of Business Management.
The Head of the Management Department of FEB UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Dr. Titik Kusmantini, S.E., M.Si., was unable to attend and was represented by Dr. Nina Fapari Arief, S.E., M.Si., Secretary of the Management Department.
The meeting addressed four main agendas: institutional visits and welcoming remarks; coordination on the curriculum structure, course requirements, and various scenarios concerning the thesis or project substitution within the Joint Degree program; the delivery of guest lectures and research-sharing sessions by lecturers from UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta to MSU students; and the exploration of opportunities for future academic collaboration.
The discussion also focused on opportunities for joint research, student exchange, and other academic initiatives that can be sustainably developed by both institutions.
As part of the academic program, the agenda continued with a guest lecture on Organizational Behavior and a research-sharing session for students of Management and Business, FBMP, MSU. One of the topics presented during the sharing session highlighted the experience of the Management Department of FEB UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta in strengthening production quality practices and business legality for herbal beverage SMEs supported by the Management Department.
The sharing session provided a platform for exchanging experiences on how academic engagement can be applied to support the strengthening of small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in improving production processes, standardizing business practices, and fulfilling business legality requirements. This experience also serves as an example of the integration of academic activities, research, and community service.
The guest lecture and sharing session not only strengthened knowledge exchange between the two institutions but also created opportunities for more practice-oriented academic collaboration, including joint research and the development of programs addressing the needs of communities and the business sector.
The participation of the Batch 1 student in the Joint Degree Master of Management Program represents an important achievement for FEB UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. The program not only expands students’ international academic experiences but also strengthens the development of learning, joint research, student mobility, community service, and international academic networks within the Management Department.
With the commencement of the Batch 1 student’s academic process, the collaboration between UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta and MSU is expected to continue evolving from institutional cooperation into increasingly productive, practice-oriented, and sustainable academic collaboration.
