Press Release: "Statistics Speak, Public Trusts: Designing Sustainable Development in the Era of Data Revolution"

Tuesday, October 14, 2025 — A Practitioner Lecture was held at the Seminar Room of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. The event was attended by several distinguished figures, including the Deputy Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS RI), Dr. Sonny Harry B. Harmadi, S.E., M.E., CRGP; Acting Head of BPS for the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Ir. Herum Fajarwati, M.M.; Rector of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. Mohamad Irhas Effendi, M.Si.; Dean of FEB, Dr. Januar Eko Prasetio, S.E., M.Si.; and Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Collaboration, Dr. Jamzani Sodik, S.E., M.Si. Also present were the supervisors of Pojok Statistik (Statistics Corner), Dr. Sultan, S.E., M.Si., and Ryan Setya Budi, S.E., M.Ec.Dev.

Event Documentation

This activity featured Dr. Sonny Harry B. Harmadi, the Deputy Head of BPS RI, as the main speaker with the theme “Statistics Speak, Public Trusts: Designing Sustainable Development in the Era of Data Revolution.” On this occasion, the VISION program (Viewing Insight of Statistics in Our New Gen) from Pojok Statistik UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta was also introduced. The program is a collaborative initiative between BPS Sleman Regency and UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta.

The event began with an opening statement delivered by Acting Head of BPS DIY, Ir. Herum Fajarwati, M.M., who emphasized the importance of strengthening statistical literacy among academics. This was followed by opening remarks from the Rector of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. Mohamad Irhas Effendi, M.Si., who highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia and statistical institutions to enhance the quality of education, particularly in understanding strategic indicators for sustainable development and enriching students’ insights into statistical data.

The main presentation was delivered by Dr. Sonny Harry B. Harmadi, moderated by Dr. Ardhito Bhinadi, S.E., M.Si., Coordinator of the Development Economics Study Program. In his presentation, Dr. Sonny emphasized the crucial role of statistics in planning sustainable national development amidst the massive wave of the data revolution. He also introduced one of BPS’s major upcoming activities, the 2026 Economic Census, and invited all elements of society—including academics and students—to actively participate in ensuring its success.
